Introduction
Matías Deneken is a Chilean sociologist and data scientist whose work sits at the intersection of the sociology of violence, democracy, and computational social science. His research examines how social processes unfold in contemporary societies through the rigorous application of quantitative and computational methods.
Milestones
His graduate studies have been fully funded by Chile's National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) — the national equivalent of UKRI or the U.S. NSF — through its International Doctoral Scholarship (2026–2030), ranked first in the Artificial Intelligence area, and its National Master's Scholarship (2022–2024). He also received a Fulbright Equal Opportunity Scholarship (declined) and the University of Concepción Award for academic excellence in Sociology (2022).
Consultancy project
Matías founded MethodoLab — a data science initiative that pushes the frontier of computational methods in social research through consultancy, pipelines, and applied analytics for academic and public-sector projects.
Now
He will begin his PhD in Computational Social Science at the Department of Methodology, London School of Economics.

Matías Deneken es un sociólogo y científico de datos chileno cuyo trabajo se sitúa en la intersección de la sociología de la violencia, la democracia y la ciencia social computacional. Ha colaborado en estudios longitudinales a gran escala como el Estudio Longitudinal de Relaciones Interculturales (ELRI) y el Estudio Panel de Percepciones de Seguridad y Policías (EPSEP).
Experiencia
Estuvo afiliado al Observatorio de Violencia y Legitimidad Social (OLES) (www.oles.cl), donde trabajó como Asistente de Investigación en bases de datos longitudinales y pipelines de scraping web.
Es Investigador en Estudios Cuantitativos en el Centro de Estudios Interculturales e Indígenas (CIIR) (www.ciir.cl) desde diciembre de 2022, donde coordinó la Encuesta Longitudinal de Relaciones Interculturales (ELRI) y co-editó (RE) Configuraciones Interculturales.
Proyecto de consultoría
Fundó MethodoLab — iniciativa de ciencia de datos que avanza la frontera de los métodos computacionales en investigación social mediante consultoría, pipelines y analítica aplicada para proyectos académicos y del sector público.

Comenzará su doctorado en Computational Social Science en el Department of Methodology, London School of Economics.
